The Dust Bowl
It relates the the Great Depression because it shows the pain and suffering people had to go threw. It shows how people lost there houses money and crops. I thought it was interesting because of what was happening at the time and the thing and suffering people had to go through. That was part of the Great Depression. The Dust Bowl, also known as the Dirty Thirties, was a period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the Us and Canadian Parries during the 1930s. Many settlers got land and moved west. When they began to farm their was large scale erosion by deep plowing. This caused all the natural grasses to be killed and when drought came it dried up all the ground. Then when bug wind storms arose it would cause sand storms. It happened more in southern plains rather then northern plains. That began the Dust Bowl.
When the Dust Bowl arose the farming of the Great plains ended. Men, women and families had to leave their farms and move away because of crop failure. They also had to move because of storms would blow houses down. Over 350 houses were down after one storm alone. The severe drought and dust storms had left many people homeless and others had their houses foreclosed by banks. these people had no place to live and no money so they were forced to leave. Others felt they were left no choice but to abandon their farms in search of work. Many Americans migrated to look for work. They felt they had no choice but to move. Over 35 million acres were destroyed in the Dust Bowl. 100 million acres in crops have lost all or most of the topsoil. 125 million acres of land in crops are rapidly losing topsoil. To help the economy and help people through the Dust Bowl FDR created the Emergency Relief Act that gave money to people for relief. It was mainly for droughts. This the how the Dust Bowl affected Americans in the Great Depression.
